Dr Brian Iddon MP marks Diabetes Week 10th -16th June |
|
12th June 2007 Dr Brian Iddon MP has lent his support to Diabetes Week by adding his signature to an Early Day Motion tabled to mark the annual event. The theme of this year’s campaign is “Small Change, Big Difference.” The campaign in Parliament is focusing on encouraging the NHS to make the small change of using newer technologies recommended by NICE which may make a big difference to sufferers of type 1 diabetes in the management of their condition. Dr Iddon said, “There are currently 2 million people in the UK suffering from diabetes plus approximately three quarters of a million people who do not yet know they have the condition. In keeping with the theme of the week I would like to raise awareness of the condition and encourage people to make the small change of swapping a sugary snack for a piece of fruit and to keep an eye on their weight. I am pleased to add my support to the Parliamentary campaign calling on the NHS to enable more people with type 1 diabetes to have access to new treatment technologies that NICE have recommended which may help them to manage their conditions more easily.” Diabetes Week runs from 10th -16th June and is being marked by a number of events up and down the country to encourage people to be aware of the risk factors associated with developing the condition.
