11th January 2008 Dr Brian Iddon MP has been recognised by the Markets Industry for his long standing support and campaigning work. Dr Iddon, who is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on the Markets Industry received the Award for Achievement of the Year 2007 from the President of the National Association of British Market Authorities, Councillor Gareth Jones. The award comes as Dr Iddon is about the reintroduce his Pedlars (Street Trading Regulation) Bill back into the House of Commons at the beginning of February. Dr Iddon said, “I was delighted to receive this award from NABMA, the Market Industry plays a vital role in our communities and I take pride in being able to support its work and campaigns in Parliament. I am keen to continue my work in this area particularly with regard to my Private Members Bill, which seeks to amend the law governing the licensing of pedlars to prevent illegal street trading.” The Pedlars (Street Trading Regulation) Bill seeks to save local authorities taking out expensive private legislation to combat local problems of pedlars and illegal street traders by introducing national legislation to control the problems caused by pedlars who violate their certificates and trade illegally.
