Dr Brian Iddon MP calls on all former Land Army Girls to Apply for their Badges

30th January 2008

Bolton South East MP, Dr Brian Iddon is today calling on all former Women’s Land Army and Women’s Timber Corps members to apply for their recognition badges from the Government. The badges, which are being awarded to all Land Army and Timber Corps members seeks to acknowledge the work done by these women during the Second World War.

At its peak in 1943 there were some 80,000 women working on the land. The Land Army and the Timber Corp were disbanded in 1950 and the veterans of these organisations have been fighting for recognition for some years.

Dr Iddon said,

“During World War Two thousands of women up and down the country worked hard to provide food and timber for the nation. I am delighted that these specially designed badges are now available to all those women who took part in this important work. I would urge all women in my constituency who think they may be eligible to apply for their badges using the details below”
