Dr Brian Iddon MP Praises Bolton TIC in Westminster Hall Debate

16th May 2008

Bolton South East MP and former Director of the Board at Bolton Technical Innovation (TIC) Dr Brian Iddon yesterday used a Westminster Hall Debate speech to praise the hard work done by the staff at the TIC.

The debate was held to discuss the Science and Technology Select Committee Report into Funding of Science and Discovery Centres. Dr Iddon was able to raise issues of particular concern to science centres which the Committee Inquiry had uncovered. The area of greatest concern to many science centres is finding a consistent and reliable stream of funding such as those received by museums and galleries.

Dr Iddon said,

“I really welcomed the opportunity to raise these matters with the Minister for Science, Ian Pearson, science centres, such as Bolton TIC play a vital role in enthusing young people about science but in order to operate properly they need to feel secure in their funding. I would urge the Government to look very carefully at the Committee’s recommendations and act now to protect these valuable learning resources.”

“I was also delighted to be able to mention my work with Bolton TIC and to praise the staff there, who do a terrific job in communicating science to young people across Bolton.”
